KTH Royal Institute of Technology is working in a consortium to examine long-term energy system development pathways for Ethiopia. The project aims to to combine social sciences with energy modelling to take a comprehensive approach on how the energy system might evolve with regards to both demand and supply, focusing on the power sector. The OnSSET tool is used to model pathways for Ethiopia to go from 44% access to universal access in 2025 and beyond, while the OSeMOSYS tool is used to optimize grid-connected power generation. Stakeholder interactions and capacity development workshops are key concepts of the project to ensure policy relevance and long-term sustainability beyond the project.
